Job Summary As a Registered Nurse on our IMCU/Telemetry unit at Baylor Scott & White - College Station, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with a variety of complex medical and cardiac conditions. Our 40-bed IMCU/Telemetry unit cares for patients with cardiac conditions, stroke, multi-organ dysfunction, and other patients requiring close monitoring and a higher level of care than traditional Medical-Surgical units.
This is a full-time night shift position working 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week .
The Telemetry RN is responsible for assessing patients, recognizing changes in cardiac rhythm and overall clinical condition, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient responses, and coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team.
The RN will manage and prioritize care for multiple patients while maintaining patient safety, clinical quality, and a positive patient experience. The RN will recognize changes in patient condition, appropriately escalate concerns, and collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to provide timely and effective care.
Essential Functions of the Role
• Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs. Create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans and adjust plans as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
• Provide nursing care to adult patients with cardiac, stroke, multi-organ dysfunction, and other complex medical conditions.
• Continuously monitor patients and recognize changes in cardiac rhythms, vital signs, neurological status, and overall clinical condition.
• Interpret and respond appropriately to telemetry monitoring and communicate significant rhythm or patient changes to the appropriate healthcare team.
• Safely administer medications, treatments, and nursing interventions, including medications commonly used in cardiac and acute-care settings.
• Care for multiple patients while effectively prioritizing assessments, medications, treatments, monitoring, and other nursing interventions throughout the night shift.
• Recognize signs of patient deterioration and promptly escalate changes in condition using appropriate clinical judgment and hospital procedures.
• Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families while managing discomfort, addressing concerns, and maintaining professionalism.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, disease management, and discharge instructions.
• Collaborate with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members to develop and coordinate individualized plans of care.
• Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice, and follow up to ensure care is completed safely and effectively.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, telemetry findings, patient responses, and other clinical information in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, evidence-based practice, and unit-based initiatives.
• Contribute to a positive team environment and support the professional development of peers.
Key Success Factors
• Strong understanding of professional nursing practice, acute-care nursing, and telemetry patient care standards.
• Previous IMCU, Telemetry, Progressive Care, Step-Down, ICU, or strong acute-care/Med-Surg experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cardiac conditions, dysrhythmias, stroke care, multi-organ dysfunction, medications, and common acute-care treatments.
• Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to changes in cardiac rhythm and patient condition.
• Strong assessment, clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to safely manage and prioritize care for multiple patients in a higher-acuity environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate changes in patient condition to physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
• Ability to work effectively and independently during the night shift while maintaining close collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Respect for professional nursing ethics, patient privacy, and confidentiality.
• Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Basic computer skills, encompassing Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
• Commitment to teamwork, professional growth, patient safety, and delivering an exceptional patient experience.

Qualifications
• Grad of an Accredited Program
• Specialized field of study should be nursing.
• RN license.
• Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.
