Job Summary As a Registered Nurse on our Medical-Surgical unit at Baylor Scott & White - College Station, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. Our Med/Surg team provides care to patients with diverse diagnoses and varying levels of acuity in a fast-paced acute-care environment.
This is a full-time night shift position working 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week .
The Med/Surg RN is responsible for assessing patients, identifying health issues, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient responses, and coordinating care with the interdisciplinary team.
The RN will manage and prioritize care for multiple patients while maintaining patient safety, clinical quality, and a positive patient experience. The RN will recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately, communicate effectively with providers and the healthcare team, and delegate tasks based on patient needs, staff competencies, and the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
Essential Functions of the Role
• As an RN, conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs. Create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans and adjust plans as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
• Provide nursing care to adult Medical-Surgical patients with a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses and varying levels of acuity.
• Care for multiple patients while effectively prioritizing assessments, medications, treatments, procedures, and other nursing interventions throughout the night shift.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition, recognize potential complications, and communicate significant findings to the appropriate members of the healthcare team.
• Safely administer medications, treatments, and other nursing interventions while following hospital policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
• Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families while managing discomfort, addressing concerns, and maintaining professionalism.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, disease management, and discharge instructions. Assess and document learning needs and patient understanding.
• Collaborate with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members to develop and coordinate individualized plans of care.
• Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and scope of practice, and follow up to ensure care is completed safely and effectively.
• Utilize clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills to identify patient needs, prioritize care, and respond to changes in patient status, including during overnight hours when patient conditions may change unexpectedly.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and other clinical information in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, evidence-based practice, and unit-based initiatives.
• Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, support the professional development of peers, and contribute to a positive patient-care environment.
Key Success Factors
• A deep understanding of professional nursing practice, acute-care nursing, and Medical-Surgical patient care standards.
• Previous acute-care or Medical-Surgical nursing experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of common medical and surgical conditions, disease processes, medications, treatments, and potential complications.
• Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and appropriately prioritize and escalate care.
• Strong assessment, clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to safely manage and prioritize care for multiple patients in a fast-paced Med/Surg environment.
• Strong time-management and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively and independently during the night shift while collaborating closely with the healthcare team.
• Respect for professional nursing ethics, patient privacy, and confidentiality.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Basic computer skills, encompassing Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
• Commitment to teamwork, professional growth, patient safety, and delivering an exceptional patient experience.

Qualifications
• Grad of an Accredited Program
• Specialized field of study should be nursing.
• RN license.
• Must have BLS certification or get it within 30 days of starting in this role.
